Why Georgians should vote for Taylor in 2006 – Commentary by Bud Cranford
With the November election looming, I wanted to share some thoughts with all the other Heritage supporters
in the State of Georgia.
There are many of us who feel that Perdue lied over the Flag issue, using it to deliver the political upset
of the century, becoming Georgia's first Republican Governor since reconstruction, and then reneging on his promise to let Georgians vote on the
flag of their choice.
Some would argue that Perdue delivered on his promise [haw haw haw] and that the House of Representatives were the ones
who removed the 1956 Flag from the referendum, forgetting that the Governor has the power to veto. The said referendum was a farce, between the
flag dubbed "the ugliest flag in America" and the new banner which resembles the 1st National Confederate "provisional" flag, but which in the Official
description has 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies; several of which were trying very diligently to kill our Confederate ancestors
between 1861 and 1865.

L to R: 2003 Counterfeit Georgia flag, 1st National CSA provisional flag, 2nd National CSA flag (aka "Stainless Banner")
On the other hand, how does it honor our Confederate ancestors to display a flag that resembles the flag they rejected in
1863, when they approved the design for the 2nd National Flag, (aka, the Stainless Banner)? It seems to me that by allowing a State Flag based on
the design they rejected while still living, we are symbolically rejecting their decision.
Now that the election nears, people are trying to decide for whom to cast their ballot. Do we vote for
Sonny Perdue who sold us out to corporate business and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce? Do we Vote for Mark Taylor, who is no friend of
Georgia's heritage? Do we vote for Libertarian candidate Garrett Hayes who has stated he likes the new flag and has no intention of readdressing
the Flag issue?
Perdue has lied multiple times to the people of Georgia. Not just about the Flag but about his personal
finances (Disneygate), passed laws designed solely for him to avoid paying taxes, and passed laws concerning illegal immigration that benefit the
state through fines but do little to curb the problem. Do we want an unethical Governor who seems to think his word is not binding and that he is above the law?
Garrett Hayes might be an honorable and decent person, but due to our election process in Georgia, 3rd party
candidates are seldom taken seriously (and seldom get on the ballot), garnering only 3 to 6 per-cent of the votes. While voting on principle is a good and honorable thing to
do, I feel that in this election, too much is at stake to let principle take precedent above results.
Based on Ray McBerry's results in the Republican Primary, it is clear that Heritage supporters can muster
10 to 11 percent of the votes if we unite and vote with one objective in mind.
If we stay at home and ignore this election because we don't have a candidate we support, we will lose
and probably have Perdue for another four years.
If we vote for Garrett Hayes in protest over the lack of candidates who support our views, we will lose
because Perdue will likely win against Taylor and we will have four more years of a Governor who has already proven his disregard for the people
of Georgia. Just imagine what he could do when not restrained by the possibility of reelection.
The only choice I can see is to hold our noses and take the unpleasant medicine and vote for Taylor.
There is a distinct possibility that with Perdue's ethics violation, Disneygate, his lack of support for Georgia's teachers and the Flag issue,
our 10% vote could swing the election in Taylor's favor, just as we did in 2002, giving the Governor's chair to Perdue.
I urge everyone to Vote for Taylor and defeat Perdue in November. This will once again send a message to
our legislators that the voice of the people will be heard and that we, not they, control Georgia's elections, and fulfill our promise of making
Perdue our next one-term Governor.
A vote for Taylor is a vote against Perdue.
**This letter should not be construed as support of Taylor. It is intended as opposition to Perdue's lack
of fidelity to the people of Georgia.
Webmaster's Note: As gardeners say, "It's time to turn over the compost pile." The expression we
prefer to use is, "Taylor---for now." We will of course dump Taylor in four years unless he surprises us with good performance. With a Republican House
and Senate in Georgia, Taylor would serve as a check on them and, in turn, they would serve as a check on him. Gridlock can be a beautiful thing. Of course,
I speak only for me, the deranged webmaster.
