My Cup Runneth Over, by J. A. Davis
In our never ending obligation to address the intrusions on our
inheritance, the assault to be dealt with comes in different forms from
different directions.
I'm looking at the unmitigated arrogance and selfishness of
NASCAR, the foolishness and hypocrisy of the city of Tifton, Georgia, as it
has determined to fly the Mexican flag and finally, the release
of the fantasy-satire film, CSA, The Confederate States of America.
Each of these topics deserves a column of its own. I'm sure there will
be some. My cup runneth over.
Special thanks should go to the many readers of my commentary along
with our other talented writers and thinkers at the GHC website who take the
time to write or call and offer suggestions. Our audience continues to grow
in huge numbers because of the support we get from loyal readers who
pass the word about our efforts. Several have prompted us on the
subjects at hand. Each will know you have my personal thanks.
NASCAR has its roots right here in North
Georgia where I live. That's where the best and most skilled drivers
transported moonshine. No one, especially the revenue agents, could
compete with them. This was particularly true when stock car racing began.
Many of those families are still around. They're proud of their
heritage and the contributions their ancestors made to the
development of speed and safety in automobiles as well as to the
development of the huge enterprise known as NASCAR.
At GHC, we regularly pay tribute to these folks in our satire on the
Dukes Of Hazzard, a TV series developed by Gy Waldron which ran for 147
episodes nationwide for several years. Re-runs now play on CMT cable.
The Duke family in the series is the current generation of the North Georgia shine
runners who no longer run white lightning, but maintain the family love for Southern
traditions.
Their featured car, the General Lee, has a Confederate battleflag on
its roof. It is patterned after the traditional stock car.
Our satire at GHC, developed by Steve Scroggins, is called The Dukes of
Heritage vs. The Dorks of Hotlanta. It has shaken the Georgia political community to the extent
certain politicians have targeted GHC for raids designed to destroy our
capabilities just as the revenooers tried to do with the predecessors
of the Dukes of Hazzard.
NASCAR today is as disengenuiness as the Georgia politicians who sell
out their principle for dollars. The equation is the same. Bash everything
Confederate, remove it, denigrate it and pander to the
dollars that will surely come from expanded markets in the North and
West and greater TV bucks.
This is unfortunately true in big business today. Large corporate
officers earn in the millions while eliminating pension funds of their
employees or worse, shipping their jobs overseas.
The arrogance of NASCAR should be met with no support and outright
condemnation by all who love the heritage of the South and particularly
those who honor the real history of stock car racing.
Now we come to the subject of Tifton, the
tomato capital, in South Georgia.
Tifton, and nearby areas have been the subject of news stories about
attacks by black gangs on illegal immigrants.
Six are dead and almost a dozen more are injured resulting from home
invasions which reportedly are designed purely for robbery of cash held by the
illegal immigrants.
The mayor of Tifton in an act of sympathy
for the dead and injured has ordered the Mexican flag to be flown from
the city flagpole.
We have sympathy for the dead and injured too. Our difference is "two
wrongs don't make a right." [ About the Mexican Flag ]
Let's get some facts straight. Home invasion, robbery, assault and
murder is a serious crime. Illegal immigration is also a crime. Providing
assistance and enabling illegal immigration is also a crime. While is
is possible to fly a Mexican flag under certain restrictions, this
instance seems a little extreme. It begs the question: Should the
people of Tifton be honoring illegal behavior?
The question becomes more troubling when you consider Tifton is in the
district of state representative Austin Scott who has a chairman of the
committee that has refused to allow a bill [ HB-15 ] to even be considered regarding giving the
people of Georgia a fair vote on their state flag.
How ironic it is that in Scott's district it's
OK to fly the Mexican flag while he refuses to even allow a vote in his
committee on giving the people the right to have an up or down vote on
their state flag? ?
Austin Scott needs a long vacation in Mexico. Let him block freedom
there.
Finally, there's this new movie, CSA, Confederate States of America.
Reportedly, it has been produced over a period of three years on a low
budget. A conglomerate of black organizations and individuals are said to have
sponsored it and are promoting it.
It makes no bones about being fantasy, or a satire. Unfortunately,
not everyone watching it will understand that. The movie website, for example, could be misconstrued unless one digs deeper.
The PC community and media will go all out to make this picture a
mainstay of public opinion. Much like some of the [Michael] Moore fictions that are designed
to affect how people who don't know, and don't know what they don't know.
The battle for public perception continues. That is why is so it is so important for all of us to stand
firm with truth, honesty and the honor of our inheritance.
