WHO IS REALLY A LOST CAUSE? – Commentary by Jim Dean
Editors Note: This commentary is a response to the Atlanta Journal Constitution article
written by Jim Galloway and published January 4, 2004, entitled "For '56 flaggers, it's not over yet - They are
hoping to change choices in referendum." [ AJC Link || SPofGA Link ]
AJC heritage issue coverage continues to be self-serving in their desire to support the
ethnic cleansing of Dixie. Hostile coverage has a silver lining to it though: What they leave out is a dead give-a-way
about what they don't want the public to know. This is an age old art in journalism, 'covering' the story but slanting it
the way you want.
I have been following the journalistic bashing of traditional Southern heritage for
five years so the tricks are all old hat to me. Let's get started.
'Just because a Cause is lost'.....'Pickett's disastrous charge'....these
phrases, folks, are not used by accident. They are specifically chosen to set the tone of the article...and in this
case the intended tone is "LOST CAUSE."
The next trick is, from all your interviews, use mostly those comments that support
this premise (the tone), ignoring all those that don't...mixing in some token opposition comments to cover your behind for
balance. As you re-read the article you will easily spot each of these, including the token ones. These are
usually put at the end so that skim readers won't even see them.
But what they leave out is more interesting, and I will list these.
1) While mentioning the SONNY LIED yard signs, Galloway somehow missed the thousands of BOOT COLEMAN and numerous
other 'turncoat' yard signs that are popping up statewide. They have been up for months. [See the GPU stories listed in the right side menu.]
2) All legislative quotes were generally negative on idea of including the '56 flag in a FAIR VOTE as the best way to
resolve the issue. Galloway sure didn't search very diligently. Of all the past legislative heritage supporters, only ONE we
have talked to so far has refused to help us with a new FAIR VOTE flag bill. His name will be listed later on the website,
along with the others.
3) The comment of 'a lawmaker to introduce the bill' is a bit strange. Galloway must have had a seizure while this was
discussed. He was told there was bipartisan support in both houses....ah...that's at least four. How many, of course,
we did not say. The first was an important senator who jumped on with no resevations 'because I have always felt it
should be handled this way, events have proven that, and I still do.' Y'all will find out when we announce, but
it's a lot more than one.
Submitting an important comtroversial bill with one supporter is a joke. Only an idiot would do such a thing. Our
strategists are highly experienced Southern political consultants.
4) 'Southern white culture'...I have NEVER heard this term used by a heritage activist ( Lost cause is
only used by journalists), and I have interviewed hundreds of them over five years and have a huge video archive if
anyone is interested. This was inserted to...well...you know why.
5) Our organization identity, the GHC, was buried. Our name was given wrong...it's hard to understand that as Galloway
checked out the website and discussed it quite a bit in his interview. Has anyone seen "Southern Heritage Coalition"
on our website? Please call us if you do. There is a reward. Here is where we really are: www.GeorgiaHeritageCouncil.org
But of course, if someone does a word search for it on the web, they won't get to our site...and then they won't see what's
here will they? Surprise, surprise! It may have been just a slip, but Galloway is not a rookie reporter. And I can
assure you that despite the advanced ages of some of us, we have no confusion about what our name is.
6) All the interview discussions about the state wide coordinating and modern public relations effort the the GHC was
bringing to the table to assist the heritage orgs in getting their mesage out, despite a hostile media...well...they
just didn't make the article. Surprise!
So what you are left with is a hopeless last ditch effort by a band of Confederate
deadenders...legislators that don't give our flag bill a snowball's chance in hell... a mysterious lone sponsor...
Sonny, whose intel network cannot find out that the legislators are being canvased (I figure he knew by day two...
three at the most)...and Tyrone [Brooks], who planned the whole flag scenario to work out like this all along.
Yeah, right. Tyrone, did you plan to be rid of Barnes and Murphy, too...as part of the deal?
What you don't see is a growing heritage grass roots movement that is shaking the
political ground for Democrats and Republicans. They are incurring tremendous political carnage as a result of
their totally incompetent handling of heritage issues, primarily the fault of the leadership of both parties.
Both Dems and Repubs have told us they know they cannot get or hold the Senate if they
botch the heritage vote. While the National Democratic party self-destructs, Georgia's is not far behind, and the
Repubs not far behind them. The Repubs also have no chance of ever getting the House without the heritage vote.
And if the black caucus kills a new flag bill in committee, they just may kill off their last committee
chairmanships, as traditional Southerners see that these heritage-haters must be removed from the leadership
political scene.
The huge numbers of heritage issue voters are very angry...at the Dems and the Repubs.
Much of that anger is focused on the leadership, whom they feel has sold out to special interests and are using
the legislators as human shields to absorb any backlash. Both
sides have told us they have no intention of remaining in this 'disposable' role. Disposing of the leadership is
something that comes to mind...and they will find a lot of ready and willing helpers among the heritage
constituency.
'Pickett's last charge' Mr. Galloway? I don't think so. How about lemmings rushing to the sea?
Just recently a Mason-Dixon poll shows that half (50%) of Georgia voters want the '56 flag in the referendum. A dead issue that half the people want to deal with?...I don't think so.
