YOUR HATRED DOTH RUNNETH OVER – Commentary by Jim Dean
Webmaster's Note: This commentary is a response to the Augusta Chronicle hate speech and drivel
written by "Editorial Staff" and published January 14, 2004.
"The absolute last thing we need is a reheated wrangle over a dead issue
that will put no money in taxpayers' pockets, nor serve Georgia's children and their parents in any way. And over an
issue that serves only to divide the state in ways not seen since the days of segregation."
Gents,
Your bigotry doth runneth over. You sadly represent a divisive segment of America that is a disgrace to the rest of us. The comment above runs off the scale in it's insensitivity, historical inaccuracy, greed, and misplaced priorities. You folks are heritage haters for sure.
Re: 'a dead issue': The Mason Dixon poll last week revealed that 50% of Georgians want the '56 flag included in a referendum for a Fair Vote. The rigged one that we currently have, a backroom deal Senator Tom Price did with the black caucus to get the tabacco tax through, is hardly recognized by true Georgians as the result of a 'legislative' process. It is viewed in the Georgia heartland as being similar to a gerrymandered district where the vote outcome has been 'arranged' beforehand.
RE: 'put no money in the taxpayers' pockets'. Ah, your true colors doth fly here.That is not government's job. They take money out of people's pockets and spend part of it on services going back to them. They create no wealth whatsoever. That was a brain dead comment but typical for modern daily editorials masquerading as enlightened thought.
RE: 'not serve Georgia's children and parents in anyway'. Sniff....sniff. I smell a little 'it takes a village' here. I bet you will vote for Hillary...you know, the lady who has her master's thesis under lock and key, and whose graduate school mentor was the top intellectual communist in the country.
The Georgia Heritage Coalition has a quote on the front page of their website that you need to tape on to your bathroom mirror.
"Society is an open ended partnership between generations. The dead, and the not yet born, are as much a part of society as the living. To dishonor the dead is to reject the relationship upon which society is built, the relationship of obligation between generations. Those who have lost respect for the dead, have ceased to be trustees of their inheritance." --Gods and Generals director Ron Maxwell, guest of honor at the 2003 Sons of Confederate Veterans convention quoting Edmund Burke's famous Parliament speech.
I have this on video tape , by the way. If y'all don't see the connection, give me a call and maybe we can start some multi cultural training at the Augusta Chronicle....$1000/day plus expenses, payable in advance...404-966-6827.
Re: 'divides the state'...'not since segregation'? I don't think so. Martin Luther King's Holiday was hung up in Georgia due to funding the pay of the state employees. The black caucus came to the heritage leadership and asked them to give up one if the three holidays they currently had. In extending an olive branch to Georgia's black citizens, President Jefferson Davis' birthday (June 3) was given up. The King holiday breezed through. The very next year, the black caucus came back, and for a thank you, introduced their first bill to change the flag. That kind of divisiveness is rarely covered by spinmeister editorialists like yourself. It is people like you who are ruining our business (journalism).
The segregation part is a cheap smear, telegraphed in the preceeding bigotry of your ending statement. If I did a search on your paper for commentary on black America's 'segregating' comtemporary black on black slavery in Africa off their civil rights priorities, we both know I won't find any. There is 'no money in it for their children and parents'.
The Military Order of World Wars is an inter-service officer corp veterans organization of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines. We support upholding the honor of our Southern brethern. Why? It's simple. They are official United States veterans by act of Congress. They have fought in America's wars, sometimes comprising up to 70% of our armed forces. Descendents of Confederate soldiers lie in battle field graves across the globe, and rest under many seas.
The '56 Georgia flag is a unique piece of American heritage in that it is the only state flag anywhere in the world raised as a memorial to fallen soldiers and their suffering families. It was put up as part of the Civil War Centennial celebrations. It has been flown by freedom movements overthrowing tyranical government throughout the past century. World newspaper archives hold these images...but are virtually ignored by the anti-Southern PC media crowd. That your kind finds this offensive, somehow does not surprise me.
We are not dead. It ain't over. And it's not too late to stop the hate. I'd invite you onto a Heritage TV show sometime up here in Atlanta but it would be like going deer hunting and then shooting a fawn, even a 'redleg' one from Kansas. {grin}
