Dirt Roads Scholar: Christophobes endure hardships – Commentary by Michael Kilpatrick
There is a good bit of paranoiac hand wringing, and teeth gnashing about right wing evangelicals wanting to
install a "theocracy" in this country. Besides the obvious fallacies in that myth, the premise is badly misstated anyway. It's not so much a question
of the threat of a Christian theocracy as it is a question of whose theocracy would you prefer?
The case can easily be made that the real fundamental religious dogmatists (after the Muslim jihadists of
course) are the secular humanist atheists and their power lobbies such as "People for the American Way", the ACLU, and "The National Education
Association", etc.. For example, I have met Pentecostal snake-handlers who are more open minded and unafraid to debate than any worshipper of
Darwinian evolution. And those same preachers of unfettered hedonism have a dead solid exclusive lock on your children's education, from kindergarten
through graduate school.
A friend who, some time back, decided he was an atheist recently conceded that he needs more faith than I do
as a Christian to believe as he does. One reason for that is that his religion does not match up to the reality he is confronted with every morning
when he opens his eyes, and must be embraced without troubling questions.
I would further expand that assessment to say that he is more religious
than I am also. Man made religion tends to become progressively more legalistic, and intolerant as it entrenches against challenges to its dogma. But
the Pharisees of godlessness are soon going to be forced to come out of hiding and play with the big boys, in front of the vast majority of Americans
who question stupidity, especially from elite academia, even if they succeed in subverting the courts to obeisance to the atheist priesthood. At that
point, the current theocracy will fall, and Truth will out.
To set the fluttering hearts of the Christophobes at ease I propose we ban all expressions of faith that don't
deny the Deity of Jesus, the concept of original sin, and the need for redemption (plus several minor tenets I may have neglected). Of course,
Islamists may have a few objections, but since they inhabit the graces of the liberal left, if for no other reason than they are neither American nor
Christian, a few beheadings and homicide bombings here or there are a small price to pay for even short term licentious, guilt-free hedonism.
What, pray tell, would our world, or our neighborhoods look like if there were no disgusting, rabid,
intolerant, so-called "Christians" around to spoil everyone's fun? We could ask seventy million inhabitants of the godless Soviet State who lived it,
but they were all sacrificed to the religion of the State. Sadly though, I would guess that today our lives would not be too much different, for a
little while anyway, due to the successful emasculation of Christendom from within. But history would be another thing entirely. A successful ban two
thousand years ago would have removed the only bulwark holding barbarism at bay. It took a while longer than it would have, but barbarism has
arrived; enjoy.
"Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold;
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity." ---William Butler Yeats
We wait, likely in vain, for the [Macon Telegraph] editorial board and any other leftists to denounce Senator
Durbin for his shameful conduct in likening the U.S. military to Nazis and Communists. It must place all the closet Soviet apologists in a difficult
position; having to, on the one hand tout Socialism as a good thing, and on the other, the results of it (death camps, mass murder) as a bad thing.
We have no problem with Senator Durbins' announcing his belief in patent falsehoods, or his embrace of the
concept of the moral equivalence of genocide, and beheadings - with room temperatures and rap music. He has merely removed himself from any chance to
run for the presidency in the future, much as Mr. Kerry did with his House testimony comparing U.S. troops to a mispronounced Genghis Khan. He has
also secured himself an indelibly identified position on the rear section of his party's mascot.
It would serve justice if he lost his Senate seat over his slanderous remarks as well. Would that his
contemporaries and sycophants be so honest and forthright as to hail his words, and embellish on them, if they can find the fool's courage to do so.
