Dirt Roads Scholar: Bill Maher's Neurological Disorder – Commentary by Michael Kilpatrick
While perusing the alternative media I came across an interview (
www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=42906 ) with
glitterati TV pop-philosopher Bill Maher where he stated that, "Christians and others who are religious suffer from a neurological disorder that
'stops people from thinking.'" While not surprising, noting the source, there was at least residual outrage overcoming my acquired immunity to
lofty words of wisdom uttered by ageing adolescent comics.
On further reflection though, an awareness of how his viewpoint
would appear to me if it were reversed became apparent. If Mr. Maher's statements were turned on their head and restated by a Christian,
myself for instance, I would heartily agree with them.
Let's try a few, starting
with the one previously noted:
'Leftists and others who are religious atheists suffer from a
neurological disorder that stops people from thinking.' Or,
'If you look at it logically, it's something that was drilled into their heads when
they were small children, continuing all the way through school and into
college. And you really can't be responsible when you are a kid for what adults
put into your head.' Or,
"When you look at beliefs in such things as, my ancestor was a monkey, or is there an Uncle Sugar, we
would have more in common with France, Canada and Cuba than we would with nations of traditional Western Civilization and Christendom, nations
that, yes, I would consider more Godless than us." And,
"They believe in atheism, which as - I think it was Bob Jones who had that quote about atheism is a
crutch for weak-minded people who need strength in numbers." And,
"When people say to me, 'You love America,' yes, I love America. I am just embarrassed that
it has been taken over by Godless heathens, by people who do not believe in Truth or righteousness. It is the 21st century. And I will tell you, my
friend...the future does not belong to the atheists. The future does not belong to secular humanism."
Well, that was fun, and enlightening. I feel more tolerant now. You go, Bill! The farther the better.
