“No Taxation Without Representation”
(and do you feel your values are represented in this society?)
By Robert Lloyd
Our Founding Fathers argued that the colonies were not adequately represented in England and used that as one of the reasons for secession. But if the truth be known, they wanted out even if King George relented and gave us a seat in Parliament. Freedom was the issue.
But freedom from what? Maybe freedom from people that are in a position of authority that can pull social opinion and even votes in elections. But so what (you might say), it’s like that in every country and that is just the way it is. But what if those people in authority do not represent the same basic values that you and your family have and that this country was built upon? Does the rich man in London believe as you do… and for certain? In 1775 it was pretty hard to learn anything about England if you were in the backwoods of Pennsylvania. I think our Founding Fathers were right and we needed to run our own country here in America.
Now think about this a second as something has gone wrong. Look at the people in present day America that are powerful either in politics, news, the movie/TV industry, the music business, or basic ownership of the large corporations? Do these people represent you? Now I don’t want to hear you say they are so great because they are famous or have a pretty smile. Do these people share the same values of God, family, and country that you do?
I am a traditional Christian conservative as are many people that will read this article. But when I look at my TV for a short and painful while, I see pure godless liberalism in the programming, the actors, and the producers of the programming. When I look at politicians in Washington DC I see pure godless liberalism everywhere, and including the White House. When I look at the music business (unfortunately) I see pure godless liberalism throughout. The large corporate owners can best be judged by their commercials that they pay for and approve of. Have you seen these ‘commercials’ lately? Ted Turner, one of the most powerful of all businessmen says Christianity is for losers. Does this represent your feelings? We have pure godless liberalism.
Even in the military our leaders have gone astray. General Colin Powell argued to President Bush in Gulf War I that our air-force should cease the bombing of the Republican Guard as they left Kuwait City in stolen Mercedes as it was a slaughter and it was too much for him to bear. This same man is pro-choice. Do you see what we have here? Sympathy for murdering thieves but support of the murder of innocent children.
How many actors and actresses (by the way, they don’t use the word ‘actress’ anymore) share basic values that you most likely have? Do you think they attend, let’s say for instance, a Baptist church on Sundays, let alone Wednesdays or Sunday nights. Come on… how about Meg Ryan? Dustin Hoffman? When is the last time you saw Robert Redford picketing outside an abortion clinic? Maybe to save a baby whale, but not a tiny baby human. Maybe Tom Cruise is your Christian example? Ha ha ha… he sure is a reeeeal religious gent.
But let’s not go on as we could easily put together the full picture of what we have gotten ourselves into but this would become too redundant. Common American values are NOT represented anymore in America. YOU PAY TAXES, BUT YOU ARE NOT REPRESENTED.
Our Founding Fathers went to war over the same thing.
