The U.S. Needs Foreign Election Monitors?? – Commentary by Steve Scroggins
Folks, this story floored me. I'm rarely speechless.
While browsing the Townhall commentary, I found a column by Joel Mowbray. While I can't
agree with his warm & fuzzy view of the American media, I do agree that we probably have one of the better systems in the world. I'm skeptical that the U.K., France or Canada have better systems.
We have
PLENTY of information AVAILABLE to voters, our problem is getting people interested enough in the issues to get past the mile-wide inch-deep mass-media summaries or overcoming cynicism to convince American citizens that they can make a difference in our American "one party system."
(Ballot access for independents and dominance by Republicans/Democrats is a subject for another column.)
Mowbray's column has a main point: Why the Heck are we inviting foreign monitors to watch our elections?
And if these foreign U.N. spies see something they find alarming or questionable (Gadzooks, Francois, a hanging chad!!!...By Jove, Nigel, is that a cadaver voting?), just
what the heck are they going to do about it? Send a report to Congresswoman Lee? Hold a press conference? Issue a U.N. Condemnation Resolution? Please!
What does Congressperson Lee have to do with this, you ask? She and a gaggle of Democratic partisans went to the movies
to watch Farenheit 911...and what they learned ALARMED them! Gasp! I'm happy to know that our U.S. Congress is monitoring propaganda
films to educate themselves. These are the same people who were chanting with Je$$e Jack$son in 2000 that Bush "stole" the election from Gore.
You're probably having trouble believing this, right? I'm not making this up. Here's a link to Lee's website:
Press Release from Congresswoman Barbara Lee
Various European wimps and hypocrites, along with their third-world banana-republic partners are going to come in and
monitor the U.S. elections just to keep them honest. [Stop laughing, OK?] Congresswoman Lee's website informs me of the names of the
stalwart organization that will come in to protect us from those evil Republican (racist?) people who might try to disenfranchise Americans.
The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s (OSCE) Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).
Just that name makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, doesn't it?
And the Bush Administration is going along with it.
Should we call up the OSCE/ODIHR and----assuming they have someone who speaks English----suggest that
they have a look at some of Terry Coleman's supporters down in Dodge County Georgia? There have been instances where cemetery residents
voted down there.
On second thought...Nah! Some sissy Frenchman might get his nose rearranged if he approaches one of the good ole boys down there and "makes a move that could be misinterpreted." Then we'd
have an international incident.
Voter Fraud: Protecting the Integrity of Our Democratic System
by Hans A. von Spakovsky
This story is circa 1999-2000---a new system has been implemented in Georgia since then, including electronic ballot counters and I.D. requirements. The electronic
system opens up a whole new frontier of possible vote fraud.
Spakovsky's State Senate testimony
Yes, I know that our American voter system has a LOT of FLAWS and holes. We have illegal aliens voting for Heaven's sake!! Improvements have been slow
but the idea of foreigners "policing" or "monitoring" the U.S. elections process flies in the face or our self-respect and our sovereignty.
OK, I'll leave it at that. If you see any strange-looking characters hanging around your polling place, it's probably
just the Republican mercenary carpetbagger candidate who lives in a P.O. Box in your town (like Alan Keyes or Dylan Glenn). But if not, it might be one of those OSCE/ODIHR foreigners just
monitoring the election.
