ATLANTA --- A memorial monument (photo above) was dedicated today at the Georgia Capitol by employees of the Department of Revenue and the Georgia Chamber of Commerce. In addition, an appropriate plaque was placed near the new HPA Confederate memorial statue. The plaque is to commemorate Chamber leadership in pork barrel spending projects resulting in higher taxes and special interest legislation enacted in the closing days of each session.

The monument will be open to the public two days a year, April Fool's Day, commemorating the taxpayer's contribution to fund legislative duplicity, and on St. Andrews Day, in perpetual rememberance of lobbyists and special interests who have achieved major accomplishments in influencing legislators to remove any Confederate symbols except for two days a year.

The remaining 363 days a year the memorial enclosure will house a stable of swine to be fattened awaiting the final days of the legislative session each year. Since there's no longer any need to tie up horses and carriages, legislators can use the tie-ring on the memorial "Lawn Charlie" to tie up their favorite fat pig until its appointed hour.

The enacting legislation for these memorials had reached an impasse over the flags to be flown at the monument. In a last minute compromise, it was agreed to fly the white flag of surrender over the HPA tribute statue and to fly both the Barnes 2001 flag and the 2003 Perdue/Chamber flag over the Chamber's memorial plaque. Legislators agreed this was a fitting tribute to the Chamber and their work with the leaders of both parties.

The legislative means and methods employed to accomplish these major historical events have been underwhelmingly approved in a highly promoted referendum where 14% of the registered voters spoke loudly and clearly in support of the establishment of this memorial. It's a fitting tribute to the best state legislature money can buy.
